| The view on my flight to L.A. |
So, Tuesday was my move date. Traveling is never my idea of fun, and 20 hours of flying in economy class is definitely not something I want to repeat any time soon. But let me share some of my insight because it was a rollercoaster ride of excitement. First off, I flew out of DTW to LAX and from LAX I flew directly into Guangzhou. This is the longest set of flights I've ever been on. The flight to LAX took me 5 hours and was relating uneventful. I flew Delta and I wish I could have flown Delta to Guangzhou because the airplane had some nice features like a plug where I could charge my stuff and WiFi which I regret not taking advantage of during my flight (Note: It is highly possible that I just missed all of this on the other airline, because I was too enamoured by everything else that was new...who knows).

| China Southern Airlines |
My second airline was China Southern which is apparently a really nice Chinese airline.
First things first: DO NOT LEAVE THE AIRPORT TO RECHECK IN.
When you arrive at LAX, head towards Tom Brady International (I think that's the right name). On your route you will find some screens with international flight information. Find your flight to get your terminal. Once you get to the terminal, go to the desk and they will give you your new boarding pass there.
Make note of your seat number. Once the plane starts boarding there will be signs telling you which line is for which seat numbers. Don't be rude and huddle around the entry way to be the first person on the plane. Trust me. This system works quickly and effectively. Besides, you've got a 15 hour flight to sit down on. Enjoy the moments you are standing.
Lastly, enjoy your flight while you can. Watch movies, play games, listen to music, read a book and if you can, try to sleep. I took dramamine and a different sleep aid to help me power through that flight. It was still all manner of awful, but at least I slept for some portion of it.
Also, try some different foods on the flight. The last picture is of congee with pork and a century egg. I've never had congee before, but it was delicious. It is basically porridge. It is a common breakfast dish in China. The century egg which is that green/yellow half moon item at the top of the dish is a preserved egg. Wikipedia defines a century egg as this: " a Chinese preserved food product and delicacy made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing."
The bottom line is this: Chinese food is delicious and I'm a picky eater.
